All women have a small chance of having a baby with a physiological disability or syndrome.
This risk is slightly higher than average in women over 35 years, couples who already have a child with a congenital problem,or where an early ultrasound has identified a problem with the baby.
The First Trimester Screening package is a risk assessment test to determine whether your chance of having a baby with Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Edward’s Syndrome (Trisomy 18), or Patau’s Syndrome ( Trisomy 13) is high or low.
It can be a very reassuring test if the results prove to be low risk.

We use a system recommended by the Fetal Medicine Foundation where blood tests are carried out at 10 weeks gestation and an ultrasound scan at 12 weeks. This gives a detection rate of up to 94%.
